The Mass Communications/Broadband Committee is tasked with: gathering information regarding the availability of broadband internet within Searsport and identifying deficiencies in coverage, reliability, and/or speeds; providing residents with that information; and providing guidance to the Searsport Selectmen regarding Searsport investment in broadband infrastructure. The Mass Communications/Broadband Committee sees increased access to broadband internet service as a way to support economic development (through attracting new businesses, and assisting in the growth of existing local businesses and home-based businesses) and community development (with parity of access leading to a healthier, better-educated community and fostering civic and political engagement).

Downtown Free Public Wi-Fi

The Town of Searsport has received a $12,568 grant from the Community Broadband Grant Program of the Maine Community Foundation to bring Downtown WIFI to Searsport to continue the recent growth. This grant is going to help with the installation of equipment used to bring free public WIFI to our downtown. As Searsport continues to see growth and revitalization having something like downtown WIFI will set us apart and make us more of a destination then a rest stop or pass through town. The Selectmen, Economic Development Director and resident are now working to ensure that growth continues through various efforts. For more information, call 207-548-6372.
