New vehicle registration from a private sale or out of state dealer requires the following documentation:

• Proof of residency in Searsport (deed, lease, rental agreement or letter from property owner) if this is your first time registering a vehicle in Searsport
• If you're transferring plates, bring the registration document for the plates you plan to reuse
• Bill of sale, invoice or lease agreement
• Title for the vehicle
• A valid insurance card for the vehicle and its current mileage
• The window sticker if this is a brand new vehicle

NOTE: You pay excise tax at the Town Office and then go to a BMV branch to pay sales tax, get a new title and obtain plates.
